Who Am I
My name is Marie-Aimée, a French woman living in the Netherlands since 2017. 5 years ago, I started learning about investing. While I studied finance AND worked in finance, I was extremely insecure about investing myself. I even almost delegated my money to an investment company until I read their fine prints and realised that the promised yield would be severely impacted by their fees. After few more months of hesitation, I decided to just start and see what would happen. I won’t lie: it has been a lonely journey, especially because while I found a lot of French content, I found very few content online from Dutch content creators and basically none in English. I created this blog to share what I would have loved to find when I started. I will be sharing my knowledge about budgeting, saving, and investing. My goal is to inspire other women to get acquainted with their personal finances the same way you learn a skill or to get to know a person: by taking time for it. That’s why I decided to name my blog the money date: to take time for your money. That time can be used anyway is needed: at the beginning; it could be to build a budget but once you get more comfortable, you could also use this time to step up and from having a budget, start saving for projects which are important to you. Like any learning process, there will be uncomfortable moments but the reward will be worth it. My focus is immigrants (yes, expats are immigrants 😊) women in the Netherlands, because that’s a part of who I am. Whether you just arrived here for work, study or as a trailing partner, you are dealing with so many new things and this can be daunting. I want to encourage you to become familiar with a part of this new environment in a friendly way. For you who have been here for a little while now and have a Bonus card, I want to push you to become financially literate because knowledge is power and unfortunately personal finance is not taught in school.
